The Gate of The Hundred Sorrows is a short film built upon a short story originally written by Rudyard Kipling in 1888. Far flung from the Jungle Book, The Gate of the Hundred Sorrows follows one man’s descent into the ethereal world of a Calcutta opium den and explores the surreal and surprising interactions between its eclectic clientele. Fundamentally a tragedy, the protagonist’s romantic vision of ‘The Gate’ and ‘The Black Smoke’ gives way to the harsh realities of life, death and addiction.
